Introducing My New Substack - Patchwork Fiction: Southern Tales
If you’ve ever felt like you don’t quite fit in but found your people anyway, these stories of small-town Southern creative misfits are for you.
You may have noticed a lull in Earl and Mabel’s letters recently, but I’m thrilled to share that I’m not only back, but I’m expanding my passion for Kentucky love stories into fiction.
While I’ve been quiet here, I’ve been busy fulfilling a lifelong dream - writing and publishing my own fiction. I’ve launched a new Substack site called “Patchwork Fiction: Southern Tales,” featuring my original stories about art, love, and the complexities of small-town life in the American South.
My first novelette, “Shelbourne & Mattingly,” unfolds in a Kentucky bourbon town on the shortest day of the year. Like Earl and Mabel’s wartime correspondence, it explores how love can flourish when time feels precious. The story takes place in 1992, in the fictional town of Rockland Springs, where two childhood friends from bourbon distillery families are about to discover that some secrets refuse to stay buried.
I’d be thrilled if you’d check it out! Patchwork Fiction
The first chapter is available now, with new installments coming every Saturday.
I’m happy to be back in the swing of things with Earl & Mabel’s letters too, with plans to post a new one each Sunday.
Thank you for your continued support!
With heartfelt gratitude,
Suzanne
This is really cool! I also think this post does a great job of introducing your Substack and what it's doing. Love the title of the series as well!
